Get Tied to your TV – 8 Kinky TV Episodes

BDSM and kink has always been a part of the public discourse. Not necessarily from a positive point of view, but some whipping and bondage have always intrigued the minds of screenwriters. As avid TV bingers who spend a lot of time in front of Netflix, we wanted to share with you the joy of finding some kink related TV episodes.

Lady Heather dominates the screen

CSI

CSI was, or still is, the only TV series that had a recurring kinky character. Fans all know and like Lady Heather, portrayed by Melinda Clarke. Lady Heather, a professional dominatrix, was the love interest of protagonist Gil Grissom, the CSI supervisor, rivaling Sara Sidle, a forensic scientist and a leading character. She appears on the show through the seasons, as the owner of a fetish club, then a victim of a murder attempt and later as a psychologist and a sex therapist. Albeit starring in only six episodes over a period of 10 years, Steven Cohan, writing a book about the show, mentioned her role there as “questioning of identity and the status of normality”.

Scandalous Su takes the stage

Scandal – S04E16 – It’s Good to be Kink

The latest show to air an episode about BDSM, post 50-Shades-of-Grey, was Shonda Rhimes’ “Scandal”, starring the talented Lena Dunham as Susanne “Su” Thomas, a BDSM-savvy woman who allegedly had sexual relations with some of DC’s most powerful men, and is now about to publish her memoirs. While she wants to publish the stories using pseudonyms, those men hire Olivia Pope to try and… shut it down. Olivia manages to convince her telling her that publishing this book will result in a bad reputation everywhere, but Thomas (totally representing Dunham’s inner voice) changes her mind and confronts Pope with one of the most kink-positive speeches we’ve seen on the screen, shunning her and telling her she has the right to embrace her sexuality.

The plot twists later as we understand her motive for writing the book, but we’re not here to spoil everything.

Medicinal fetishes

House M.D. – S01E20 – Love Hurts

In this episode we meet Harvey Park, suffering from a stroke. Park is hospitalized for more tests, while a mysterious woman accompanies him and answers the questions for him. This all looked familiar, but we got really suspicious when we saw the patient enjoying a really painful EMG (we won’t go into details, but it involves needles in your muscles). Only when we saw this woman friend choking our patient and the team pulled her off, did one of the team-members admits to knowing her from a former 24/7 relationship.

Dr. House automatically presumes Park’s conditions has something to do with trauma from his passion for asphyxiation, and has his dominatrix, Annette, barred from the hospital.

As always, after ruling out a few conditions and Lupus, House solves this case, but insists that their games must cease or Park will eventually die. It is then that the episode is summarized when Annette explains that it’s not about the pain, it’s about vulnerability – that by allowing yourself to be open and to trust another person, only then you can change. Think about this, House, it’s a metaphor for you.

Taking things into accountant

Secret Diary of a Call Girl – S01E04

Belle, our protagonist, is a call-girl and this time she’s attending to her accountant, sheepishly asking her to start hurting him a bit more. Knowing nothing about this genre, her madam connects her to Cerona, a dominatrix that arrives at her house accompanied by her sub. What we liked about this portrayal of BDSM is the positive mentoring explaining that BDSM is not about sex, it’s about control, and should be treated seriously. After training on Cerona’s sub, Belle is ready for the mission. Does this work out for her? Just watch the show.

Pain is not a punishment

Law and Order SVU – S01E9 – Stocks and Bondage

Yet again, BDSM is thrown into the same cauldron as crime. This episode was aired in 1999, mind you, which might explain the attitude towards that businesswoman found dead in her house. The team is led into the world of BDSM with the use of the same common, worn-out clichés that kinksters just want to be punished by pain. Surprisingly enough, that wasn’t death by autoerotic asphyxiation, it was actually a crime.

Tiger on the streets, kitty in the sheets

Nip/tuck – S05E01 – Carly Summers

Fifth season premier starts with a sub-plot about BDSM, and again, we see the darker side of domination and pain, as Sean and Christian, the clinic owners, tend to a patient badly scarred from scening with Mistress DarkPain, a crazy dominatrix. The patient, surprisingly, is a big-shot movie producer, because all big-shots secretly like to be dominated. We don’t need to point out that this looks more like abuse and less like a D/s relationship, right?

Death by a pick-up truck

CSI:NY – S01E16 – Hush

Woman found on the expressway, dead and naked. What could that be? Apparently, she wasn’t hitchhiking, and investigations leads the detectives to discover some really bizarre things, like, oh my god, a latex suit. Things get a little kinkier when prints on the latex suit leads them to a seminar about safe bondage techniques for forniphiliacs. Was this whole thing a murder or was it some kind of session gone totally awry?

Cosmos and Shoes

Sex and the City – S02E12 – La Douleur Exquise!

Last, but never least, the show that made sales of Cosmo cocktails skyrocket.  This time, the girls join Samantha in one of her PR events – a restaurant opening with a kinky flavor. Carrie doesn’t even take to her Macbook for the girls to start talking about their fetishes – Miranda’s fetish is historical biographies, and Charlotte has a shoe fetish – for shopping, of course. But then, Miranda is dating a guy who like doing it on the edge of getting caught, and Charlotte goes out to feed her shoe hunger, and runs into a foot-lover shoe salesman that gives her a 100% discount. Pretty soft-core, but who wouldn’t want a retailer with a fetish to give us discounts?

Philly to Boise

Desperate Housewives – S01E14 – Love is in the Air

We won’t say much, we’ll just let you watch that one bit.
